I think there are Many programs to help and support families with children that have disabilities... I feel the real need is for families that choose to keep their adult children with disabilities at with them rather than in supported living situations... It would be a lot less expensive on the state and families could stay together... When these folks are old enough to be out of the school system some of them would thrive and do better living away from their families and THIS is very important to help fund...They keep cutting and cutting and there will be consequences that saying wish we would have will be too late...

I am a double amoputee, with a six year old who is under a disabilitting mental health problem. T.E.A.M. Center of Chattanooga has offered to help him with his diagnosis and social problems from, this. If the funding is cut for this program the existing mental and child recources will be the only resources avilable to him, and so far in the last twelve months these are woefully inadequate and useless for him.
I too have used this service because of my amputationms and heart surgery, and I have had to have non-medical aspects of this program - such as minor house repairs and renovations - which i could never have afforded on my own with just disability. And my future plans of dental care (which has been inaccessable to me for decades other than the Dodson Ave. clinic, also woefully inadequate and understaffed) is also not cappable of meeting my needs. My late wife had gone there for eight years, had repeated unschedualed actions taken care of which had been doenm before, was 6 to 8 monmths between appointments, and it took them 8 years to finalize her needs, and then she had to pay out of pocket for the dentures! Considerinig the needed work, the x-rays, the repeated unnessicary teeth cleanigns, and the work schedualed but not performed, and the endless waiting, I was hoping that Team Center could handle my needs at a local dentests in my hometown instead of having to travel hours to get to Chattanooga, and the ridiculous manueverinig to find the place; which also had been changed from southside Chattanooga to Dodson Ave. during her dental visits.
The momey spent by the T.E.A.M.Centers is well spent, and long overdue for the citizens of
Tennessee, especially we who have fworked so hard most of our lives and failed to gain the medical/dental insureances we need to conmtinue to do the work we do; usually too hard, and too long the hours for so little pay.

Very proud to hear of your meeting. We are meeting with Sen Jim Kyle and will be meeting later with Rep Steve McManus.
In February, we will be taking our signed petitions to Nashville, we currently have 2000 signatures and plan to continue collecting until Feb.
We have also solicited the support and aid from our Family Support - local council members. One of them arranged the meeting with Sen Jim Kyle.
We are also planning a ' personal letter writing ' session to our legislators.
This ' ain't ' going to be easy, but anything is possible, if we all pull together and let our voices be heard. I believe our legislators will listen, especially if they SEE the people that they are impacting.
